Plans for Value Creation in PMI starring Olivier Maltese

Welcome to another episode of 100 Days and beyond with Oliver Maltiese. He is a Managing Director (partner). He is experienced in Corporate Strategy, Shareholder Value Creation, M&A (PMI, Carve-out) & Transformation.

Background

He has been in the M&A for about 20 years, assisting mainly large corporations and various industries in their buy and sell operations. After a few years in London, he moved back to Paris to lead and help develop Deloitte’s M&A Operations (PMI, Carve-out). He works closely with clients in various of sectors, including A&D, High tech, Life sciences, Industrials, and Utilities.

 

Value creation challenges

 The best path to create sustainable value growth in a fast-changing environment needs a lot of considerations around transformation. Oliver thinks that the human journey is the main thing behind its technical side. You must be able to embrace the change or transformation of businesses. You need to on-board the team of management. A business plan is not enough. You need to spend a lot of time, money and thought to train and support people on the journey. One of the key lessons is that we need to prepare quickly. It will help leading companies and leadership team to highlight weakness and their strengths and support the transformation journey of a long time.

 

Value Creation for shareholders

While creating value for shareholders in PMI, one of the challenges is trying to reconcile capital market discipline while operating model and business model. Shareholder value should leverage a company so you can work daily, driving fascinating discussions with advisors, board members and CEOs. The shareholders value creation is also based upon the quality of the leadership team. Understanding who will drive these to grow is one of the critical challenges, but timeframe is a key one.
